Ngati Porou ki Poneke is the official taurahere for the Wellington region. Our primary kaupapa is to grow and strengthen community at a social and political level. We will do this by growing our database of naatis in the Poneke region (yes there are apparently 12,000 of us) and get amongst the community to promote ngatiporoutanga through our waiata, whakapapa, delivering workshops based on Ngati Porou history and by running events throughout the year.
Every month we will visit a different community. We encourage you all, young and old to come to our hui. We will endeavour to keep everyone informed of what activities are happening in the Wellington region throughout the year and when we will be visiting your community.
We are a not-for-profit incorporated society which allows us to seek funding from various sources including Te Runanga nui o Ngati Porou. We will begin the process of applying for funding and prioritise the funds for the various events that will be run throughout the year.
Our organisational structure is built around a governance committee supported by an operational working group. The committee's main responsibilities is to set and implement the strategic direction for Ngati Porou ki Poneke and the operational working group will be responsible for planning and organising the various activities throughout the year.
