Minutes - Ngāti Porou ki Poneke whanau monthly Hui, 24/3/2014
Where: Kokiri Marae
When: 24/3/2014
Apologies recorded: Rowena Wirepa
- Waiata - Hikurangi maunga at the start of the meeting and Ka hoki nei au at the end.
- Reviewed and accepted minutes from the last meeting. Update from dad/Tamati included that the Taurahere is now an officially registered incorporation.
- Reviewed the progress with the Taurahere website. Beau explained that it was still not live but demonstrated how it would work once it was available. This included going through the various 'pages' that would be available and hoped the website would be ready by the next meeting.
- Beau also introduced the I Am Maori website to the hui. The website is specifically focused on providing a platform for whakapapa which would be freely accessible to everyone. He explained that about 8,500 names from a book compiled by E F Harris (all Ngati Porou tipuna) had been loaded into the I Am Maori database so far. Although this website is not 'live' yet Beau was able to demonstrate how, eventually, it would be possible to search for names, seek connections between tipuna and uri and produce reports that would show the whakapapa between two people, assuming the information is in the system. For example, he showed the whakapapa connection between uncle Raki (Wairakau Pahau) and Kahungunu and then from Kahungunu to Paikea. During this, dad and Uncle Raki talked about the whakapapa that was being shown.
Beau explained that they are still looking for someone to help develop a comprehensive CMS (content management system) for I Am Maori. - Finally we reviewed the waiata, Ka hoki nei au, with Dad explaining the significance of this waiata and then leading the hui in singing it two or three times.
- The hui agreed that the next meeting would be at Horouta Marae, 13 April 2014.
- Another lovely cup of tea. Hui ended at 2.30 pm.
