Te Wiwi Nati
Words and actions arranged for the Ngaiti Porou section of the 19th Maori reinforcements and sung by them at Pakipaki, Hastings 1917. The occasion was to farewell the Maori recruits on their way to the training camp at Narrowneck and for the reception to Sir James Carroll on his return from overseas.
Karanga, karanga ra e te hoa
Kua tae mai kia kite i o rongo
E hau nei i te re, i nga tau roa
Na reira ka haere mai
Chorus
Te wiwi nati o Porourangi
He iwi moke no Waiapu
No Whanga-o-Kena, no Hikurangi
He wiwi he nati he whanoke
E haere ana ki te pakanga
Ka peka mai nei ki te marae
Kia mihi, kia tangi, hei konei ra
Te iwi, hei konei ra
Hoki mai e Timi, ki Aotearoa
I haramai ra koe i nga hoa
E ngau nei i te ra, i nga tau roa
No reira i haere ai
Chorus
